Chatted to Mavlin Fletcher Curriculum leader ICT / ILT at CoNEL.

She has been interested in the virtual learning spaces such as second life and others and is inspired by the way an on-line environment can encourage self assessment, and active, independant learning.

She is impressed with Mark Grundy's Learning Gateway, and will recommend that her own institution investigates using sharepoint as their learning portal to enhance & personalise their learner's experience. CoNel currently uses Moodle.

How many people are doing DIY - there is much in your blogs about Moodle Vs Sharepoint but what about blogspot, tumblr, twitter. These DIY systems are developing far faster than the in house style moodle etc

users shouldn;t worry too much about the tech platform they should focus on apllication.

If the system is in house then Systems however do need to consider the platform - in terms of ease of installation, support, maintenance and functionality.

none of the in house systems are quite right at the moment.

I think that staff can use what ever they like in class and we here at EHWLC activelty encourage staff to create their own content for learning, but the tracking, validation, quality & business processes need to be connected, I think people like Sharepoint as it gives a sense of integration. I agree there is too much focus on platform, the main priority is content and methods for teaching with technology whatever it is.
A memeber of staff said to me the other day, we should have Moodle as that is a transferrable & good for CPD... but I feel, finding the best solution for teaching / learning with technology is a better skill.
