The Future of IT

Listened to James Woudhuysen talk about the future of IT.
Issues he raised were ideas around being too in awe of youth because of them being "digital natives" and having confidence in the understanding of strategies for teaching and learning. He supports the idea of research and development and advises caution about being diverted by Web 2.0 per say, as it may breed a feeling that there is no need for internal r & d or innovation in IT. He advocated getting obsessed with how IT influences productivity of your work place rather than being in touch with latest trends in IT in youth market. Maybe one can enhance the other though.
He also raised the issue of intergenerational differences, maybe that is not so great as previously.

I think the difference is in mindset.

The "elderly" become entrenched and defensive - they have more to lose.

The young have less to lose, more to gain - thety are more eager to try new and are not bogged down by the past.

both have something of value - where experience can inform experimentation
